ENGLISH VERSION
María Camarena is a singer, songwriter, traveler, and storyteller driven by a deep fascination with the human voice and the world of sound. Originally from Guadalajara, Mexico, she is a soprano known for a voice of exceptional timbre, shimmering warmth, and great sensitivity that has captivated a wide range of audiences.
With a musical career spanning more than two decades, María has been the lead vocalist for several ensembles, including Radaid (world music), Les Femmes de Serge (French chanson), and Siglos Pasados (early music).
In July 2023, she released her debut solo album, One Wing, a genre-blending project that weaves together orchestral, electronic, and world music influences. Drawing inspiration from science fiction, fantasy, and her own travels, the album explores themes of human limitation and growth, built around a simple idea: even with only one wing, it’s still possible to fly. That same year, she created a multidisciplinary stage production of One Wing, merging music with circus arts for the closing of the 2023 International Circus Festival (FiCHo) in Guadalajara. The following year, she brought this production to one of Mexico’s premier venues, the Santander Performing Arts Center.
In 2025, Maria released her single “Woman on the Beach,” inspired by a poem by Mariana Pérez Villoro. The piece unfolds from the delicate textures of wind chimes that flow into an intense tide of enveloping orchestration and soaring vocals.
In previous years, María has performed at notable events including the World Economic Forum in Puerto Vallarta, the 2nd International Lyric Singing Encounter in Guadalajara, and the IV Nairobi International Music Festival, where she has showcased Mexican folk music.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in linguistics from the Autonomous University of Guadalajara. Currently, she is back in the studio working on her next album, while continuing to deepen her practice in classical voice, autoharp, and creative writing.
